My mom's delicious Wheat Bhatura

Like every child, I too feel my mom is the best cook in the whole wide world. Whenever I whip up something I am never satisfied unless I feel it tastes like my mom's cooking. When I was in college I used to crave home cooked food and even dream about it. And once I was back for the holidays, I always had this big list of "Must Haves" or rather "Must Cook" for my mom and of course Bhatura was always on it.She used to make these for breakfast with Channa and I used to gobble up quite a few. She was kind enough to wait for me until I woke up and used to make them fresh for me. The memories of those hot, puffy, yummy pockets of goodness still make me drool....Well, I guess I just have to go make me some right now!!!  Ciao Soon....

Ingredients
3 3/4 - 4 C - Wheat flour 1/2kg
1 - Egg
3tsp - Sugar
1/2 tsp - Baking soda
2 tbsp - Oil or ghee
1/2 tsp - Salt
1/2 C - Yogurt
Whole milk to knead the dough

Preparation
Mix all the ingredients and knead with milk. Cover and let it rise for at least 1 hr.Make golf ball sized balls. Oil the working surface and roll the balls into 4-5" circles. Make sure that the oil is very hot before frying the Bhatura(If the oil is not hot enough they wont puff up).

  1. Made this for Bfast last weekend. I was a bit careless with the measurements of the ingredients as it was just the 3 of us and needed less dough. This one has taught me the valuable lesson that if I need ur results I need to follow what you say by the word.
